The University of New Orleans College of Engineering is seeking an experienced professional to be Director of our new Professional Pilot Program.

    Job Summary
  • Provide guidance and support for student recruitment, application, selection, and admission.
  • Work collaboratively with the Dean to develop relationships with the airlines, aviation industry, and aviation organizations to promote UNO's aviation program and scholarship opportunities.
  • Advertise, interview, hire, and manage the faculty who will be teaching the aviation courses at UNO.
  • Coordinate teaching, curriculum development, and student support activities.
  • Teach undergraduate courses in aviation and other areas as assigned.
  • Assure that the flight training courses are offered regularly by our qualified partner and meet FAA regulations.
  • Provide guidance and support for initial and continued accreditation by AABI.
  • Apply and maintain authorization from the FAA for UNO to offer a restricted airline transport pilot certificate (RATP) jointly with flight training provider.
  • Provide mentorship to faculty teaching the aviation courses at UNO.
  • Provide guidance in the accomplishment of FAA's 14 CFR Part 141 requirements established in program certificates at UNO.
  • Timely submission of assessment reports, accreditation reports, and other administrative tasks needed for SACS and AABI accreditation.
  • Support the continued development of the professional pilot program.
  • Administer up to 20 random stage check flights (in a calendar month) with UNO Professional Pilot students at the facility of our flight training provider.
  • Support diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives of the college and university.



    Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Aviation, Aviation Education, or closely related field.
  • Minimum of three years of relevant aviation experience (corporate, air carrier, flight training, military aviation, etc.).
  • No history of any FAA certificate enforcement action.
  • Broad understanding of the aviation industry, with specific emphasis in pilot operations.
  • Effective communication, organization, and administrative skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and constantly changing conditions.
  • Ability to multi-task, collect information, analyze data, define challenges, set priorities, and draw valid conclusions in a timely manner.
  • Flexibility to work varied hours during on and off-campus events and be able to respond quickly if needed.

    Desired Qualifications
  • Knowledge of the FAA regulatory regime as it applies to Part 61 and Part 141 Pilot Schools.
  • Three or more years of teaching experience in a college environment.
  • Experience with initiatives that successfully grow student enrollment.
  • Knowledge of innovative curriculum development and implementation.
  • Experience with developing and accessing student learning outcomes.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and administrative skills.
  • Experience building partnerships regionally, nationally, or internationally.
