Job Summary:
Are you passionate about advancing public health through innovative research? The Colorado School of Public Health's Center for Innovative Design and Analysis (CIDA) at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus is seeking a Biostatistician at the Research Instructor rank to join its team. In this role, you will collaborate with experienced faculty in CIDA and the Department of Biostatistics and Informatics, focusing on omics research, particularly proteomics and metabolomics. The individual in this position will consult and collaborate with investigators on all aspects of the research process, including the design of new studies (sample size and analysis planning), data management, complex programming, analysis implementation and data visualization, and dissemination of results. You will be expected to co-author abstracts, oral and poster presentations, and scientific manuscripts, providing high-level, professional, and scientifically rigorous design and analysis support to biomedical researchers at CU Anschutz.
CIDA is dedicated to expanding analytics expertise and research across the CU Anschutz Medical Campus, the largest academic health center in the Rocky Mountain region. This position offers a unique opportunity to work on innovative projects that directly impact public health while receiving mentoring and career development support. Over time, you will be expected to work more independently and apply more advanced methodologies to solve analytic challenges. Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate on Research Design: Work with investigators to design new studies, including determining appropriate sample sizes, developing analysis plans, and ensuring robust study methodologies.
- Data Management and Integration: Oversee data management tasks, including data pre-processing and integration of complex datasets.
- Advanced Programming and Analysis: Implement and optimize complex statistical programming techniques using tools like R and Python to conduct exploratory data analysis, modeling, and downstream analysis.
- Visualization and Dissemination: Create data visualizations and contribute to the dissemination of research findings through co-authoring abstracts, presentations, and scientific manuscripts.
- Collaboration and Mentorship: Provide high-level design and analysis support under the guidance of doctoral-level biostatisticians, while at times mentoring junior researchers, PRAs, and graduate research assistants as needed.
- Promote Equity in Research: Engage in practices that support diversity, equity, and inclusion within research projects, ensuring culturally responsive and effective communication with diverse research teams and participants.
Work Location:
Hybrid - this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of 3 days per week on campus and as needed for in-person meetings.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
- A MS in Biostatistics, Statistics, Data Science, or related area of graduate level training at the start date of the position.
- Experience as an analytic consultant or collaborator in graduate school or post-graduate work.
For Senior Research Instructor additional requirements include:
- A MS in Biostatistics, Statistics, Data Science, or related area of graduate level training at the start date of the position.
- Experience as an analytic consultant or collaborator in graduate school or post-graduate work.
- At least 5 years of post-graduate experience as an analytic consultant or collaborator.
- Evidence of independence or leadership on research teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 1+ year of experience with data management and integration of data sources.
- 1+ year of experience serving as a biostatistician or data analyst on multiple projects.
- Demonstrated ability of successfully contributing to the analytic elements of multiple projects simultaneously.
- Proficiency in several statistical programming software languages.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a high-performance computing environment.
- Or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the individual with the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
For Senior Research Instructor additional preferred qualifications include:
- 5+ years of experience with data management and integration of data sources.
- 5+ years of experience serving as a biostatistician or data analyst on multiple projects.
- Demonstrated ability to compare analytic approaches using simulation or a similar alternative to suggest best-practices for new situations.
- Demonstrated ability to advise on study design and write data analysis sections in grant application or protocols.
- Evidence of continued coding or analytic skill development.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise junior biostatisticians and graduate students.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Strong knowledge of statistical principles relevant in medical research.
- Ability to analyze and solve complex problems and apply quantitative analytical approaches.
- Ability to investigate the properties of statistical methodology through simulation or other means.
- Strong programming skills in a common statistical software package (such as SAS, R).
- An ability to work with high performance computing environments and cloud computing.
- Good organizational skills across multiple projects, managing own workload, self-directed.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Positive attitude and the ability to work with a variety of biomedical investigators and colleagues.
- Ability to contribute to the growth and development of the CIDA and the Department.
- Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to be culturally responsive and exercise cultural humility while communicating appropriately and effectively with diverse audiences
- Demonstrated commitment to promoting health equity and/or health justice.
For a Senior Research Instructor, additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities include:
- Ability to advise on study design and write data analysis sections in grant application or protocols.
- Ability to supervise more junior biostatisticians and graduate students.

Anticipated Pay Range:
The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE
$78,000 to $90,000 for the position of Biostatistician - Research Instructor, and at $95,000 to $ 125,000 for the position of Sr. Biostatistician - Sr. Research Instructor and actual salary will be commensurate with education, skills and years of experience.
The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
