Job Summary

The Student Academic Success Center is pleased to invite applications to teach two courses, CHEM 1113, General Chemistry I, and CHEM 1133, General Chemistry II, for the Spring 2025 semester. The position carries 6 credits and prepares students who are pursuing majors in science, mathematics, and engineering, as well as those considering careers in health fields. The ideal candidate will have teaching experience and substantial working knowledge of how to support underrepresented students to successfully negotiate the institutional barriers to success in higher education. Who We Are

The Office of Undergraduate Education (OUE) is a campus office reporting to the Senior Vice Provost for Academic Planning and Assessment within the Division of Academic Affairs. Our charge is to examine the undergraduate student experience, assess student and program outcomes, identify gaps, and launch and support student-facing campus initiatives to promote student success. OUE oversees a variety of academic programs; international programs, including Education Abroad and International Student & Scholar Services and the Program in Exploratory Studies, which is home to approximately 25% of entering first-year students each year. The Office is also the home to the campus first-year advising network and cross-campus advising initiatives. We interface with a wide array of campus partners to conceptualize and develop new student success initiatives that will enable CU-Boulder to recruit and retain a highly competitive and diverse undergraduate student body.


What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

  • Teach one section of CHEM 1113, General Chemistry I, and one section of CHEM 1133, General Chemistry II. Labs are not part of this assignment
  • Train and mentor undergraduate instructional assistants who work in the classroom
  • Attend weekly training in inclusive pedagogy
  • Complete early alerts and communicate with department coordinators to support classroom success and college retention


What You Should Know

  • Your key responsibilities will be teaching in person, holding office hours in person, and attending three in-person academic/social events coordinated by SASC in the evening over the course of the semester.
  • This is a limited term, one semester appointment.


What We Can Offer

The salary for this position is $30,000 - $31,300 with a January 2025 start date.

What We Require

  • Two years of experience teaching chemistry at the college level
  • Master's Degree in relevant field of study
