General Position Description:
This position serves as a primary liaison between veteran students and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) providing comprehensive support to ensure the successful utilization of VA educational benefits. Provides veteran students with support to ensure student success and retention.

Essential Job Functions:
1. Serves as an initial point of contact for prospective and enrolled veteran students regarding their eligibility and application for VA educational benefits (e.g., Post-9/11 GI Bill, Yellow Ribbon Program, Vocational Rehabilitation, etc.).
2. Provides guidance and support to students completing and submitting VA application forms and required documentation.
3. Interprets complex VA regulations and communicates them clearly to students.
4. Processes and reports student enrollments to the VA in a timely manner, ensuring full compliance with all VA regulations, including updates related to enrollment status.
5. Maintains detailed and accurate records of student VA benefits, certifications, and correspondence.
6. Supports the Director in preparing and submitting required VA reports, including enrollment certifications, adjustment reports, and other compliance documentation.
7. Works closely with college departments to ensure seamless support for veteran students with on-campus and community resources, including tutoring, counseling, career services, and veteran organizations.
8. Organizes and participates in events and workshops designed to support veteran students.
9. Engages in professional development opportunities and VA training programs to stay current on all VA regulations, policies, and updates related to educational benefits.
10. Supports the director in updating internal procedures related to VA benefit processing.
11. Performs other related duties as assigned
Required Minimum Education:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

Other Required Qualifications:
Minimum of 3 years of experience working with VA educational benefits or financial aid.
Required License/Certification:
Preferred Education & Field of Study:
Associate's Degree from a regionally accredited institution.
Preferred Type of Experience:
Experience as a veteran, military spouse, or dependent.
Proficiency in using VA-specific software and databases (e.g., VA-ONCE).
Minimum of 1 year of experience working in a college or university setting.
Preferred Licenses/Certification:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
1. Knowledge of VA educational benefit programs (e.g., Post-9/11 GI Bill, Ch. 30, Ch. 31, Ch. 33, Ch. 35, Ch. 1606).2. Ability to use technology and multiple software programs including Microsoft Office.3. Experience with student information systems including Banner (Ellucian Banner software preferred) or similar student information enterprise systems.4. Ability to effectively communicate interpersonally, orally, and in writing.5. Ability to handle multiple priorities and assignments, organize work and function independently.6. Knowledge of higher education policies and procedures.7. Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
General Working Conditions:
This job primarily operates in a professional office environment. The employee will routinely operate standard office equipment including but not limited to computers, keyboards, mouse, phones, photocopiers, printers, scanners, filing cabinets and fax machines. While performing the duties of this job, the noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
Typical physical competencies include but are not limited to frequently remaining stationary, moving, reaching, positioning self and occasionally ascending/descending, lifting/moving objects weighing between 5-15 pounds. This job also entails frequently communicating, discerning and exchanging information, detecting and perceiving objects up close, at a distance, and the ability to adjust focus. Cognitive abilities include but are not limited to frequently using discretion, judgment, reasoning, memory, learning, maintaining confidentiality, comprehension, problem solving, and decision-making.
