The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Idaho invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor. Candidates with a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and service, and whose research and teaching complement existing departmental strengths and/or address emerging research areas related to national priorities in mechanical engineering, are encouraged to apply. Competitive candidates should have demonstrated potential to develop an externally funded high-impact research program, mentor Ph.D. students, and advance the state of the art in mechanical engineering. Candidates should also have a record of, and aptitude for, research dissemination in high-quality peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings.
Competitive candidates should also have the ability and expertise to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in one of the traditional areas of mechanical engineering. The successful candidate will be assigned courses that may include laboratory and project components, in addition to conventional lecture components. Occasionally, some courses may be delivered virtually, either synchronously or asynchronously. New tenure-track faculty typically receive a reduced teaching load (often one class per semester) prior to tenure to support the development of a strong research program.
Applicants should possess excellent written and oral communication skills and will be expected to participate in departmental, college, and university service and leadership activities. The successful candidate will also be expected to provide academic and professional advising to undergraduate and graduate students.

Minimum Education/Degree Required:
Listed degree qualification is required at time of application.
Required Qualifications:
- Ph.D Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated experience with written and oral communication to a range of audiences.
- Demonstrated experience working collaboratively in a team environment.
- Currently hold or possess the ability to obtain a Professional Engineer license within 5 years.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience teaching and developing mechanical engineering courses.
- Expertise and experience in a new and growing research field within the scope of mechanical engineering.
- Evidence of the ability to collaborate across the department, college, and university on proposals, research, and dissemination.
- Evidence of excellence in teaching and student mentoring.
- Ability to teach hands-on laboratory courses with team project assignments.
- Ability to develop and teach upper-level undergraduate and graduate courses.
- Demonstrated ability to teach virtually, either synchronously or asynchronously.
- Experience with collaborative teaching efforts.
- Commitment to professionalism in engineering education.
