Posting Context Statement:
Reporting to the Senior Associate Vice President for Finance and Planning within the Division of Finance and Administration, the Executive Director serves as University Architect and leads a team of architects, engineers, and construction professionals. This position oversees the statewide capital development portfolio, guiding projects that are sustainable, cost-effective, and aligned with the long-range campus development plan. The Executive Director will collaborate with campus leaders, community partners, and state agencies to deliver innovative facilities that support academic excellence, research, and student success
Position Overview:
This position is responsible for the implementation and execution of the University of Idahos state-wide capital development portfolio. Provides leadership for university architects, engineers, construction managers, and support staff that provide services in facility planning, program development, design and construction administration for the facility improvements that comprise capital plan. This position is responsible for the development and implementation of the Long-Range Capital Development Plan. This position serves as the University Architect and maintains positive working relationships with the community, state and federal agencies, university units, others in the university community and its stakeholders. The position manages projects from budget development to design and construction, while ensuring projects align with long-term campus goals and operate efficiently.
Duties may include:
- Lead and direct the timely and successful implementation of the annual Capital Improvement Plan
- Lead university projects, particularly in facilities and capital planning, ensuring effective budget development, design, construction and compliance with safety and campus guidelines
- Ensure compliance with safety policies and procedures, promoting a culture of safety in the workplace while developing programs to support safe operations across all projects
- Provide architectural, engineering, and planning consultation to university units and student groups, assisting with project budgets, feasibility analysis and the development of campus infrastructure plans
- Provide competent, professional, effective project design and construction services to the university community
- Provide architectural/engineering/planning stewardship, support and consultation services for the university community
- Lead, direct and supervise the work and employees of Architectural and Engineering Services to assure effective implementation of the Capital Improvement Plan
- Other duties as assigned
Required Experience:
- Eight years managing resources and leading architects and/or engineers to include
- Project design and construction
- Construction delivery methodologies
- Budgeting and capital planning
- Knowledge of computer applications for design and administration of projects
Required Education:
- Bachelors Degree in Architecture, Architectural Engineering, Engineering or Landscape Architecture
Required Other:
- Licensed in Idaho as Architect or Professional Engineer
- Must possess a valid drivers license and be able to meet policy requirements for driving university-owned vehicles
Additional Preferred:
- Masters Degree in Architecture, Architectural Engineering, Engineering or Landscape Architecture related field
- Experience practicing architecture or engineering in a higher education setting or other public or private institution tasked with facilities development management and operations
- Certification in APPA Institute program and/or Leadership Academy and/or Credentialing Program
