Position Overview:
This position is responsible for management and administration of an intellectual property portfolio, which involves identifying, soliciting, and evaluating invention disclosures for patent and market potential, prioritizing investments in portfolio, directing patent prosecution strategies on behalf of the university, and negotiating and administering non-disclosure, material transfer, option and license agreements.

- Manage and administer the universitys intellectual property (IP) portfolio
- Identify, solicit, and evaluate invention disclosures for patentability and market potential
- Prioritize portfolio investments and direct patent prosecution strategies
- Negotiate and administer non-disclosure, material transfer, option, and license agreements
- Identify and pursue funding opportunities to advance IP toward commercialization
- Review IP rights related to sponsored research and commercialization initiatives
- Coordinate with the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences (CALS), commodity commissions, and others on plant variety licensing and related agreements
- Other duties as assigned
Required Experience:
- Three years working with intellectual property
- Experience in market analysis, strategic marketing, and commercialization strategies to effectively promote and license university-developed technologies
- Coaching and mentoring entrepreneurs
- At least one year experience working in the commercial/private sector
Required Education:
- Masters Degree in Science, Engineering, or Business; OR Bachelors Degree in Science, Engineering, or Business, AND a Juris Doctor
Required Other:
- None
Additional Preferred:
- Doctoral degree in science or engineering and three to five years direct work experience
- Demonstrated success advancing university-derived technology transfer
- Experience related to patent law, licensing, and/or contracts in a university setting
- Experience related to patent law, licensing, and/or contracts for a company, or representing independent inventors
- More than three years of work experience related to intellectual property
- Experience working with new business ventures, such as start-ups or spin-outs
