Posting Context Statement:
The Marx lab is hiring a research technician for "Biology Integration Institute: EMBER: Embedding Molecular Biology in Ecosystem Research in an era of increasing wildfire and drought" (NSF, >4.5 more years) and "DOE EPSCOR: Revealing the Causes and Consequences of Microbial Non-genetic Variability in Energy-relevant Processes" (DOE, 2 years).

Position Overview:
Performs research activities and analysis, recording observations and measurements, and reports results. Participates in analyzing and preparing results for publication. Works under general supervision.

Duties may include:
  • Prepare standard solutions for calibration and analyses
  • Interpret test results and comparing with determined standards and limits
  • Collect laboratory or field data
  • Conduct research and analysis of scientific data
  • Participate in research design discussions
  • Perform literature reviews
  • Prepare reports
  • Compare data and historical records for trend verification
  • Develop reference files, comparison charts, and graphs on research data
  • Assist with site inspections and field oversight
  • Have little or no supervisory responsibilities
  • Other duties as assigned


Required Experience:
  • Following pre-established procedures or protocols
  • Collecting and reviewing scientific data
  • Keeping complete and accurate records
  • Working in a team environment

Required Education:
  • Bachelors degree in Biology or related field

Required Other:
  • None

Additional Preferred:
  • Experience with research lab organization or management
  • Previous use of Electronic Laboratory Notebook reporting
  • One year of research experience
  • Work with continuous cultures or bioreactors and / or sequencing or protein profiling a merit
  • Knowledge in performing data analysis in R
  • Contribution to publications

  • May require working with toxic, volatile, and corrosive chemicals and/or carcinogenic substances
  • Ability to lift, carry and/or otherwise move objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
