Position Summary:
The University of Idaho College of Agricultural and Life Sciences invites applicants for a 12-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor Research Faculty-Extension Specialist position in the Department of Plant Sciences in the area of Horticulture. The position is 55% Extension, 40% Research and 5% University Service and Leadership. The position will be available starting in March 2, 2026 with a salary that is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. The primary objectives for this position will be the development of innovative horticulture-related Extension and research programming specializing in sustainable and economically viable consumer and commercial horticulture. The successful candidate is expected to work independently and collaboratively with Extension, academic, and industry partners in the region.

Minimum Education/Degree Required:
Listed degree qualification is required at time of hire.
Required Qualifications:
- A Ph.D. in plant sciences, botany, horticulture, or a closely related scientific discipline at the time of hire
- Experience with verbal and written communication.
- Experience working with interdisciplinary teams that include Extension faculty, researchers, and/or stakeholders.
- Demonstrated experience with planning, conducting, and reporting research results.
- Experience publishing research articles in peer-reviewed national or international journals.
- Experience in temperate horticultural production systems.
- Experienced researcher in controlled and/or field environments with temperate climate fruit, floral, ornamental, woody, turf, or vegetable crop production.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Record of productivity in peer-reviewed scientific publications
- Demonstrated ability to produce general public-facing media or publications
- Demonstrated ability or potential to lead and participate in independent and collaborative interdisciplinary research
- Track record of securing competitive research funding or demonstrated potential to obtain grant support
- Experience developing and delivering oral presentations to scientific, stakeholder, and industry/public audiences
- Demonstrated experience working effectively in multidisciplinary teams
- Demonstrated ability to supervise and manage staff, students, and/or volunteers
- Demonstrated professionalism and ability to work cooperatively with colleagues and clientele
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
- Work a flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends.
- Must possess a valid drivers license.
- Ability to lift, carry and/or otherwise move 50 lbs
