Job Summary

The Assistant Vice President for Business Operations is responsible for providing guidance and direction for accounting and financial matters of the University, including financial reporting, general accounting, accounts payable, public/private venture reporting, capital asset management, travel services, and others. This administrator reports directly to the Chief Operations Officer (COO) and works closely in formulating and administering policy and procedures pertaining to all fiscal matters of the University, as well as supporting the programs and mission of the University.

This position is responsible for ensuring that financial reporting is accurate, timely, and compliant with all accounting standards, and serves as the primary contact for external and state auditors. This role will also lead or support key strategic projects as needed in conjunction with the COO. This key leadership position also serves as a developmental role for those seeking to become a Chief Business Officer (CBO) in the future.

Responsibilities

Significant Duties & Responsibilities include:
  • Serve as a thought leader in support of the COO and the University executive leadership team to drive improved financial sustainability and performance of the University. Provides oversight to the technical accounting and reporting areas and Office of Student Accounts, Purchasing and Procurement, and Accounting Services to ensure timely reporting, appropriate cost-benefit internal controls, relevant key performance indicators and tracking, efficient value-added services, contemporary processes, and a strong client-focused approach.
  • Coordinate with the Office of Student Accounts on key internal controls over daily cash receipting, student accounts, collections, and all receivables for the University, as well as working with other departments.
  • Ensures compliance with all college, state, and federal rules and regulations; provides oversight, directs the submission, and ensures the integrity and timely submission of a variety of financial reports to include the Annual Financial Report, the Budgetary Compliance Report, and POV reports.
  • Directs the preparation and submission of all other financial reporting to both internal and external agencies, to include the University System of Georgia (USG). Monitor, report, and support the University and its foundations on the use of private/public ventures to elevate the student experience.
  • Manage the University's operating cash and short-term investments, working closely with the COO to develop and enhance banking relationships. Provide overall leadership, supervision, and coaching to areas of responsibility, including the evaluation of performance in relation to strategic goals.
  • Serves as primary point of contact for internal and external auditors.
  • Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with all departments through gaining an understanding of their purpose and objectives. Lead and/or support episodic strategic projects as needed.


Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting or related field is required.
  • A minimum of ten (10) years progressively responsible management experience in accounting or financial services in a highly regulated environment, public sector, or higher education administration.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree preferred.
  • Preferred qualifications include a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA), or Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA).


Proposed Salary

The annualized salary for this position is commensurate with education and experience and includes full benefits. Start date is negotiable, however priority consideration will be given to applications received by October 30, 2024.

  • Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.
  • Excellent speaking and presentation skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidential records.

Conditions of Employment
