Job Summary:

The Department of Economics at the University of Colorado Denver invites applications for a limited-term (0.9 FTE) Instructor position at the International College Beijing (ICB) for the spring 2025 semester. The position requires the individual to teach in-person on our campus in Beijing, China. Candidates should have at least a master's degree in economics by December 2024. Candidates from all fields of economics will be considered and those with teaching experience are highly encouraged to apply.

The teaching load is 4 courses in the spring 2025 semester and the instructor will also assume 10% of their duties in service roles selected in consultation with the Department Chair.

Limited-term Instructors receive international health insurance and free on-campus housing. The university covers one roundtrip ticket to Beijing. Semesters are 12 weeks long; semester start dates are based on the lunar calendar with fall semesters beginning early to mid-September, and spring semesters beginning in mid-January to early-February.

In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification document form upon hire. Based on certain employee situations, we may not be able to hire candidates directly as CU employees and may need to use a Professional Employment Organization (PEO) to complete the hire.

Faculty hired to teach at ICB must be able to meet the requirements to obtain the Z Visa to work in China (http://english.gov.cn/services/workinchina/). Our understanding of these requirements includes holding a Master's degree or above, demonstrating at least 2-years teaching experience, and holding a graduate degree that matches the area that the applicant will teach. Under these Chinese rules, the maximum age of candidates seeking a work Visa is 59. These requirements are subject to change by the Chinese government without notice.

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
  • Master's degree in Economics
  • Two years of independent teaching experience

Required Competencies:
  • Demonstrated ability to teach a variety of courses at the undergraduate level.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
  • Ability to advise undergraduate students on class choice, graduate school preparation, and more general career advice.

To be paid via CU Denver payroll, you must have a social security number and a U.S. bank account for direct deposit.

The starting salary for this position has been established as $25,983.

The above salary represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.
