Job Summary:
The Behavioral Neurology Section works in concert with the University of Colorado Alzheimer's and Cognition Center (CUACC). The CUACC is engaged in patient care, clinical research, and translational research through collaborations with the Anschutz Medical Campus and the University of Colorado Health System. Section members conduct clinical research within the CUACC, studying the science and treatment of neurodegenerative diseases with laboratory research scientists, and with the generous participation of patients seen at the Memory Disorders Clinic and Neurobehavior Clinic.
The Department of Neurology, Behavioral Neurology Section, and the CUACC have an immediate opening for a full-time (1.0 FTE) Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus.
This is a hybrid research and clinical-based position and will entail the provision of medical services to healthy older adults as well as adults with neurodegenerative diseases who are a) enrolled in our ongoing research studies (including clinical trials) or b) undergoing clinical evaluations. Successful candidates will have a proven record of accomplishment in supporting the needs of patients and developing differential diagnoses. Description of Neurology Section and the University of Colorado Alzheimer's and Cognition Center
The Behavioral Neurology Section was established in 1991 by Dr. Filley to represent the study of brain-behavior relationships, and he serves as Director with Dr. Samantha Holden as Associate Director. Clinical expertise is broad, encompassing the dementias, focal neurobehavioral syndromes, traumatic brain injury (TBI), neuropsychiatric disorders, neurobehavioral aspects of movement disorders, and higher visual dysfunction.
The Behavioral Neurology Section works in concert with the University of Colorado Alzheimer's and Cognition Center. The CUACC is engaged in patient care, clinical research, and translational research through collaborations with the Anschutz Medical Campus and the University of Colorado Health System. Section members conduct clinical research within the CUACC, studying the science and treatment of neurodegenerative diseases with laboratory research scientists, and with the generous participation of patients seen at the Memory Disorders Clinic and Neurobehavior Clinic.
The Behavioral Neurology Section also maintains a close association with the Marcus Institute for Brain Health at the Anschutz Medical Campus, a unique academic entity dedicated to the assessment and care of patients with mild TBI.
Examples of Work Performed
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Work in collaboration with the Department of Neurology faculty and the University of Colorado Alzheimer's and Cognition Center to provide research medical services for healthy older adults and adults with Alzheimer's disease and/or related conditions.
- Work in collaboration with the Behavioral Neurology Section to Screen, evaluate, diagnose, manage medications, and provide disease counseling to patients with neurodegenerative diseases.
- Will conduct neurological and physical exams on research participants.
- Will perform lumbar punctures (LPs) - training will be provided if necessary.
- Will perform clinical diagnostic interviews and assessments with research participants' caregivers or study partners using standardized forms (e.g., clinical dementia rating scale) to determine severity of symptoms.
- Will collaborate with our research team's neurologists to manage the medical aspects of the observational research studies and clinical trials in our Alzheimer's and Cognition Center.
- Will participate in and lead our research case conferences.
- Will attend the group's research meetings and educational events.
- Potentially provide clinical services and perform procedures within the UCHealth system.
- Other duties may be assigned as need arises.
Work Location:
Hybrid - The position is a hybrid position located at the Anschutz Medical Campus. Hours will vary depending on department needs (some weekends and holidays), and this will be determined at time of offer.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
Instructor
- BA/BS degree and advanced Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) degree.
- License to practice in Colorado.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous clinical research experience.
- Experience with neurological patients, especially patients with dementia and Alzheimer's disease, and/or experience in management of neurodegenerative diseases in a subspecialty environment.
- Prior experience performing lumbar punctures is desirable.
- Willingness to care for patients with a chronic, sometimes severe illness and be willing to perform procedures with training (including Lumbar punctures).

Anticipated Pay Range:
The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:
$105,000 to $118,000 based on years of relevant experience.
The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
