Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in delivering HR solutions that support business needs and objectives of both assigned client groups and HR office in partnership with HRBPs, including change management, employee engagement, workforce planning and organizational development initiatives. The Jr. HRBP may be assigned to participate in various University task forces and/or internal work teams for HR projects to assess, provide input and recommendations. Identify needs for policy revisions, draft language and present recommendations to Employee and Labor Relations team and other interested parties for their consideration and input.
  • Consult with both academic and administrative management in assigned areas, providing employee relations guidance when appropriate, including on general areas of departmental efficiency and compliance, e.g. policy interpretation and/or process improvement. Act as a point of contact for employees and managers for routine HR queries.
  • In consultation with department leaders and HR Liaisons in assigned client areas, provide expert guidance for critical performance and disciplinary concerns, employment actions and change initiatives. Assist managers in the preparation and delivery of performance feedback, including formal and informal coaching, disciplinary actions and the performance appraisal process, facilitating conflict resolution between employees and/or manager, and ensuring compliance with university policies and employment laws and regulations.
  • Conduct investigations into areas of misconduct, policy violation and inappropriate practices by individuals and within departments, including interviewing parties involved, gathering evidence or data, and writing reports, and communication to involved parties and management regarding outcome of investigation, including disciplinary procedures if applicable. The position may also collaborate in investigations with other partners such as the Department of Public Safety, Equal Employment Opportunity, Compliance and the Office of the Provost.

  • Supports the administration of the University's collective bargaining agreements and assists the Labor Relations directorate and managers in the handling and administration of grievances at the initial stages, as needed.
  • Serve as the principal case manager for employees out on leave (PMFL, accommodation, workers compensation, etc.) and communicate status updates to HRBPs and applicable departments.
  • Provide support to the Improving with You (IWY) Data Analyst with the collection of exit and stay information from staff, including conducting exit and stay interviews in accordance with a standardized protocol.
  • Provide necessary administrative assistance to the employee and labor relations office, including, but not limited to, scheduling, preparing correspondence, organizing and maintaining electronic files, proofread and edit, reviewing volunteer applications, customer service, etc.
  • Maintain records management systems, personnel files and develop and improve processes for filing, protection, and retrieval of records, and assuring compliance. Collect and compile necessary information needed to create separation agreements and RIFs from SAP.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Ability to make recommendations and/or decisions regarding resolution of employee related problems or issues by using sound analysis and judgment that is consistent with University policies, practices, government law or regulation. These recommendations and/or decisions must be consultative in nature and ensure that the recommended HR solutions are in compliance with local, state, and federal laws and regulations, University policies and practices as well as principles of modern management. Must have ability to handle confidential materials with discretion. Human Resource Knowledge/Expertise. Must possess the knowledge of principles, practices and functions of human resources management. Special emphasis on knowledge of principles and procedures for performance management, coaching, conflict management, compensation and benefits, HR systems and transactions. Organizational Skills/Project Management. Must possess strong organizational skills, evidence of self-motivation, demonstrated ability to plan, schedule and work both independently and in teams, to set priorities and to manage multiple projects and deadlines. Ability to manage multiple complex HR situations and recommend reasonable solutions. Monitor progress in projects and plans and adapt appropriately to changes or challenges. Communicates workload and status of projects effectively and timely, is well organized and manages assignments to a successful conclusion. Technology. Ability to use appropriate software for efficient completion of work objectives. Knowledge of core computing systems such as word processing, managing files and records, stenography and transcription, designing forms, and other office procedures and terminology. Have a working knowledge and understanding of database tools; Microsoft Office 365.

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, Business Administration, Psychology, or related field; or equivalent demonstrated work experience.
  • 1-3 years of experience in HR or related roles or 5+ years in absence of degree; internship experience considered.

Working Conditions:
  • Office environment with occasional travel to various sites or business units.
  • Hybrid work option available depending on business needs.
  • Prolonged periods of working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
