Position Overview:
The position advises assigned college or unit administrative leadership about financial matters, oversees and advises the leadership team about financial and administrative decisions affecting their units. This position is responsible for ensuring the fiscal integrity of all general education, donation, revenue, grant and other budgets, within the specified units, ensuring compliance with all governing federal, state and University of Idaho policies and procedures and for providing the full spectrum of budgeting and administrative requirements for the unit including high-level budget planning and fiscal management.
Duties may include:
- Provides leadership, support, direction and training for financial support staff
- Collaboratively developing current and long-term budgets
- Monitoring funds usage and preparing budget projections, developing and providing periodic financial reports for unit leadership and other administrators as required
- Provides leadership and guidance for business processes
- Acting as a representative for the units in policy and compliance matters, financial business, accountability, and financial strategic planning in addition to providing general unit support in areas of strategic importance
- Other duties as assigned
Positions at this level manage a portfolio of funds for a college or division with annual operating expenses of approximately $10 - $20m, comprised of General Education funding and generally four or more additional fund types of moderate to high complexity. Positions most often supervise dedicated fiscal specialists and the work of administrative and/or financial specialists with alternate reporting lines within the college or division. Fiscal operations at this level generally support activities of 100 - 150 faculty and staff.
Required Experience:
- Five years of management-level and/or supervisory experience in the areas of budget, fiscal or business operations including:
- Working with administrators to develop budgets
- Monitoring use of funds
- Use of electronic business systems
- Organizing and analyzing financial data in spreadsheet software to prepare summaries and financial reports
- Editing and writing business correspondence using proper grammar and punctuation as demonstrated in application materials
Required Education:
- Bachelors Degree or higher in Finance, Accounting, Business or Public Administration; six additional years of experience (for a total of eleven) may substitute for a Bachelors Degree

Additional Preferred:
- Masters Degree in business, economics, accounting or related field
- Experience working in an academic setting
- Experience working with state or federal governmental funds
- Experience utilizing database systems, spreadsheets and accounting systems to analyze, compile and produce a variety of reports
- Experience with: Banner finance and ARGOS systems, supervision of staff; presenting and discussing financial data to non-financial personnel.
- Experience communicating well both verbally and in writing
- Experience organizing and prioritizing, work independently, and accurately
- Experience working under pressure
- Experience handling conflict and sensitive issues tactfully
- Experience working in a team environment
