Posting Context Statement:
Seeking a Spatial Data Research Associate to support the Director of the University of Idaho Experimental Forest (UIEF) in managing spatial research and operational data. The Associate will collaborate with UIEF Postdocs and staff to integrate spatial data and AI solutions for developing maps and applications for various purposes. Theyll work with UIEF, College, University, Research Computing and Data Services (RCDS), the library, and external partners to synthesize and report data and revenue streams. The Associate will also manage spatial data contracts, including acquisition and licensing of remote sensing and unique UIEF data packages, and administer general UIEF research, teaching, and site-use fees.
Position Overview:
Performs research activities and analysis; implements and evaluates research procedures and data. Records observations and measurements then reports results. Responsible for analyzing and preparing results for publication. Works under general supervision with a certain degree of creativity and latitude. May supervise junior research personnel.
Duties may include:
- Provide technical support in planning and/or designing of scientific projects, studies, or applications
- Plan and conduct research and analysis of scientific data
- Interpret test results and comparing with determined standards and limits
- Identify and evaluating scientific samples and determining need for further testing
- Develop recommendations and/or providing solutions, standards, and protocol to a wide range of difficult problems
- Plan, design, develop, monitor and/or evaluate portions of a scientific project, study, or application
- Provide scientific evaluations/assessments
- Research, implement, standardize, and evaluate new procedures
- Maintain detailed records of results and prepares written reports acceptable to the Principal Investigator and funding agencies
- Other duties as assigned
Required Experience:
- Two years of post-bachelors research experience related to the domain of this position
Required Education:
- Bachelors Degree in Forestry, Forest Operations, Natural Resources, or related field
Required Other:
- None
Additional Preferred:
- Education or prior experience with forestry and natural resources
- Proficiency with R, Python, other programming languages, AI
- Graduate-level research experience
- Strong attention to detail
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
- Must be able to lift, carry, and/or otherwise move up to 25 pounds
- Ability to work/hike in steep and rugged terrain in forested environment
