Engineering Supervisor

Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in electrical engineering.5 or more years of experience at an electrical utility, particularly coordinating with field workers, substation operations/relaying, basic design, safety, and project management.

License/Certification Required
Minimum Engineer Intern (Electrical) status from the State of North Carolina.

Preferred Qualifications
Graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in electrical engineering. Professional Registration in Electrical Engineering from the State of North Carolina.
10 or more years of experience at an electrical utility, particularly with coordinating/leading field workers and contractors, substation operations/relaying, system design, safety, and project management.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Change Management 20%- Leads and directs the development and implementation of new rules, policies and/or procedures. Implements and manages technologies to improve system operations. Performs data gathering/analysis in support of distribution system operations.
This position oversees the implementation of improvements/new programs, policies, and procedures that address changes in the utility industry. May participate in the development and implementation of vision and mission statements.

Critical Thinking 20%-Manages complex work situations. Anticipates potentially problematic situations; aids in troubleshooting and resolving unusual problems. Develops solutions to unique problems and situations. Implements response to a situation based on interpretation of local, state and federal rules/regulations and standards. Ensures implementation of program policy and procedure changes to reduce risk. Applies innovative solutions and/or engineering designs where appropriate.
This position leads all aspects of engineering, metering, CAD, GIS, and field staff. Position must be able to analyze how each program integrates and coordinates with other areas both inside and outside of the utility.

Program Supervision and Administration 20%- Manages the competencies and development of all assigned staff. Seeks sources and opportunities for employee training and growth. Directs the management of program and staff resources. Involves employees in strategic planning and implementation and in the development of policies and procedures in the area of assignment. Develops strategies to improve quality of service, performance, and budgetary/operational efficiency. Designs, reviews and approves work often regarding more complex or unique issues. Provides fiscal oversight for area and may be involved in full cycle budget creation and implementation for agency/university.
This position leads all aspects of engineering, metering, CAD, GIS, and field staff. This position checks to ensure all work performed is completed and compliant with all codes, regulations, and customer requirements. This position also coordinates consultants and field staff to ensure all work is complete and installed correctly.

Professional Knowledge 15%-Thorough knowledge of and ability to interpret professional engineering theory, techniques, practices and procedures, organizational structure, and/or extraneous factors or implications; skilled in applying this knowledge. Applies thorough knowledge of and may interpret local, state and federal rules/regulations governing the area of work. Applies thorough knowledge of applicable information technology, and the impact of work with other systems and program. Knowledge of strategic planning methodologies and practices. Managing budgets/contracts of some scope and complexity including resources such as designs, personnel, and equipment within timelines.
This position must have a strong knowledge of Electric utility distribution; including engineering, substations, relaying, construction methods, GIS, SCADA, and AMI.

Communication 25%-Communicates major and/or complex situations and actions, internal and external to the organization. Interprets rules and regulations internal and external to the organization. Serves as a technical resource in developing responses to supervision chain. Reviews and approves more complex written reports or unique issues and ensures effective articulation of written conclusions. Develops and maintains professional working relationships in complex and/or difficult situations in order to achieve work goals. Seeks appropriate input from others, internal and external to the program, prior to developing new policies and procedures.
This position must be able to communicate with customers, businesses, staff and management regarding complex and emerging issues relating to the utility industry. May be called upon to act as a technical expert.

Work Schedule/Hours:Monday-Friday, 7:00 am-4:00 pm; some call back/after hours required.
Suggested Salary Range: $96,234 - $110,000
